PAWS In the Park Pet Walk, Companion Animal Fair and
Adoption
8:30 a.m. to 12-Noon, Sept. 6, 2008
at the 4-H Fairgrounds in Greenfield, Indiana
Partners for Animal Welfare Society [P.A.W.S.] is hosting the 7th
Annual PAWS In the Park Pet Walk, Companion Animal Fair and
Adoptathon at the 4-H Fairgrounds in Greenfield.
The walk portion of this event is P.A.W.S.' largest
fundraising event of the year with all proceeds going to
support P.A.W.S. homeless pets and humane education programs.
The walk starts at the Fairgrounds and is a scenic three-quarters
of a mile along the banks of Brandywine Creek through
Greenfield's Riley Park.
The registration fee for walkers who want a commemorative T-shirt
and goody bag is $20 but you do not have to be registered to
participate in any of the day's events. However, the youth and
adult registered walkers who turn in the most pledges will each
receive a special "Top PAW" trophy, a $25 Wal-Mart gift
certificate and a one-year supply of free dog food courtesy of Kent
Foods and Knightstown Elevator.
The Animal Fair portion of the event includes all sorts of
activities for pets and their humans including the Doggie
Dash Obstacle Course, Fastest Nose Contest, Best Costumed Pet, Wet
T-Shirt Race, Most Talented Pet, Flying Disc Catch and more. You
can also meet with Animal Communicator, Mary Marshall, have your
pet's portrait sketched or get a professional color photo
portrait of the whole family.
You can have your pet's toe nails clipped for free and meet
with a professional animal behaviorist about any "issues"
your pet may have.
P.A.W.S. will also be selling grilled burgers and brats and
cold drinks to raise money for its Pet Food Pantry.
Extreme Insanity Flyball Team will be doing
demonstrations and give you and your dog a chance to try
out one of the fastest growing canine sports.
P.A.W.S. Matchmaker Adoption volunteers and
representatives from more than a dozen other animal rescue groups
will be on site with lots of homeless cats, kittens, dogs, puppies,
ferrets, rabbits and birds available for adoption. Many of the pets
available for adoption are purebred, including Siberian Huskies,
Greyhounds, Poodles, Brittany Spaniels, Shelties, German Shepherds,
Yorkshire Terriers and Siamese Cats.
