The Gainesville Sun reports the story -- The Levy County Humane
Society has begun using money from a specialty license tag to help
low income families spay and neuter their pets.
Society president Mike Schenk said
the organization received a $20,000 grant from sales of Animal
Friend license plates to establish the program. The society will
spent $5,000 to have feral cats sterilized and the remaining
$15,000 to subsidize spay and neuter services for cats and
dogs.
"Under this program, Levy
County pet owners that qualify will only have to pay $5 to have
their cat or dog spayed or neutered," Schenk said. "The
grant pays for the rest."
